Located on the west of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan has suffered a troubled economy since the outbreak of full scale war in 1993 following a dispute over the enclave of Nagorano, which Armenia sought to annex. However, the oil wealth in the country provides some long term hope.

There are strong anti-Western feelings in Azerbaijan (due to the perception that the West took Armenia's side in the conflict over Nagorno). The few visitors that do travel to Azerbaijan are mainly go on business.
